Oxnard College to hold “Active Assailant” Drill with City and County First Responders

OXNARD, Calif. – In collaboration with the Oxnard Police Department, Oxnard Fire Department, and the Ventura County Fire Department, Oxnard College will conduct an “Active Assailant” emergency drill the morning of April 13, 2018.

The exercise will include a test of campus lockdown procedures, communication systems, and emergency readiness protocols. It will unfold in the Student Service Building, with an observation wing in AA-101.

The drill, which has been in the planning stages for nearly a year, will be led by a multiagency first responder task force with representatives from the following:

  • Oxnard Police Department: Commander Christopher Williams and Sgt Rob Flinn
  • Oxnard Fire Department: Battalion Chief John Colamarino and Captain Jaime Villa
  • Ventura County Fire Department: Captain Pat Kelley

The results of the exercise will help Oxnard College refine its Emergency Action Plan. While no amount of preparedness can ensure a successful outcome, it is important that we familiarize ourselves with security protocols to effectively respond and minimize loss of life should an emergency arise.
