MOORPARK COLLEGE THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT Hosts Inaugural Summer Camp For Young Students From July 16th – July 27th

Moorpark, CA – The Moorpark College Theatre Arts Department is proud to announce its first Summer Camp program, which will run from July 16th – July 27th. The program features two themed camps highlighting the works of William Shakespeare as well as comedy and improvisation. Both camps are intended for children in the third and fourth grades and will be directed by Moorpark College’s Theatre for Young Audiences, which delivers thought-provoking theatre on campuses and in neighboring communities.

“Our camp counselors believe in theatre’s power to build character and unite people from all backgrounds,” shares Suzanne Fagan, the camp’s director. “They have built powerful partnerships by performing at schools, senior living communities, and juvenile detention centers in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. They are amazing artists who will provide campers with an engaging and fun learning experience.”

The first camp will take place from July 16th – 20th and explore the works of celebrated playwright, William Shakespeare, including Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Campers will learn about the Elizabethan era as well as the strengths and frailties shared by mankind across centuries. The second camp will occur from July 23rd – 27th and study the work of great comics from the past while allowing campers to try their hand at stand-up comedy and improvisation games. Students will develop skills in teamwork, performance, and artistic creativity.

Both camps will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on weekdays between July 16th – July 27th at the Moorpark College campus. The cost for the program is $295 and only 20 slots are available for each camp. Counselors will provide students with engaging instruction and careful supervision; snacks will also be provided. To enroll your child in either camp or to receive further information regarding the Moorpark College Theatre Arts Department, please contact Suzanne Fagan at (805) 553-4847 or sfagan@vcccd.edu.
