The satellite campus of Ventura College in Santa Paula will offer two associate degrees for the first time this spring.
Ventura College East Campus will have an arts and humanities degree and a social and behavioral sciences degree starting in January, Ventura College Interim President Damon Bell said.
“Students in that area won’t have to come to the main campus, they can finish the entire degree at the East Campus,” Bell said.
The degrees are transfer degrees, meaning students who choose to do so can transfer to a four-year university once they finish and their credits will transfer with them so they begin at a junior-level status.
The announcement of the degree programs comes after a months-long discussion about the needs of the Santa Clara Valley students. Critics of the Ventura County Community College District said the East Campus wasn’t meeting the needs of the students in that area.
