Eric McDonald, Senior Programmer Analyst for VCCCD Information Technology was awarded the Chancellor’s Office Technology Focus Award at the 2019 CISOA (Chief Information Systems Officers Association) Annual Conference held in Garden Grove, California, Feb. 24 – 27, 2019.

The award was given to Eric McDonald for the common forms project, which was a project that solved significant problems to the benefit of students, staff, and faculty.

In the transition from Banner 8 to 9, McDonald was able to identify three Banner forms that would need extensive work and were common to all the California Community College’s. This resulted in him working with multiple CCC’s and Ellucian LLC to design, develop, test and document solutions to aid in the processing of CCCApply and CCCBog applications.

Rather than independently transform or pay to transform each college’s forms, McDonald helped to form a working group that analyzed the many variations of the forms and pulled together the best improvements into a common set of forms. Today the forms have been a major success and have been implemented by more than 10 other college districts.

All in all, this project has allowed CCC’s to align their student application processes.  It has resulted in the sharing of best practices along with tools which support these process. Most impressively, it comes at no cost to all California Banner customers allowing resources to be used for other elements of the Banner 9 upgrade.

Eric McDonald was nominated by Mike Rose, Director, Software Applications & Development and Dan Watkins, Associate Vice Chancellor, Information Technology.

Congratulations Eric McDonald on receiving this commendable award!
