Janeene Nagaoka, Graphic Designer | Employee Highlight Series

VCCCD would like you to get to know the staff and faculty who contribute their time, talent & education to the success of our students. We will regularly highlight employees across all four campuses, sharing their professional expertise, their educational path, and a few fun facts about them.

Name: Janeene Nagaoka
Position and what that entails: I am one of the two Graphic Designers at the district office. We design graphics for district level marketing, along with graphics for many college events. I create logos, posters, stickers, fliers, postcards, banners, social media posts and more! I also teach graphic design at Moorpark College – it’s a great combination. My favorite thing about working at the district office is that I get to connect with people from every campus. And teaching allows me to connect directly with the students. I can ask them where they get their information about campus events and what trending design styles they like. It gives me great insight for when I’m creating design pieces.
How long have you worked for the district? I started out working at Moorpark College in 2005 and then moved to the District office about 7 years ago.
Were you a student at one of the district’s colleges and if so which one? No, I didn’t attend VCCCD school. I am a CSU Chico alumni – go Wildcats!
Did you originate from the area and if not where are you from? I was born in Indiana, but my family moved back to California when I was about a year old. I grew up in Wrightwood, CA. It’s a teenie-weenie, little town of about 3,000 people these days. If you ever skied at Mt. High, you’ve probably driven through Wrightwood. When I was in elementary school, we got to go skiing every Wednesday as part of our PE program!
Share something personal about yourself: (ex: pets, hobbies, what are you currently watching/listening to and why you enjoy it) I come from a very sporty family so being active has always been a big part of my life. Road biking has been my main outdoor hobby for the past 20 years. My husband and I have a tandem that we’ve ridden over 80,000 miles. I also love going to the movies, doing crafty projects, working in my garden and I’m always up for a hike or camping adventure!
Two words to describe yourself: Creative and Outgoing. The latter of which embarrasses my daughter all the time!
